1 Peter 1: 23: “Since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God.”
The new creation believers are those in Christ who are born again, not of the flesh or by the will of man but by the Spirit of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Our Lord Jesus Himself said in John 3: 5: “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” For flesh gives birth to flesh, the earthly man gives birth to the earthly, but the Spirit gives birth to the Spirit. God is a Spirit, and Jesus Christ is the door (John 10: 9). Our Lord Jesus again said in John 14: 6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” If Jesus Christ is the door to the Father, and the Father is a Spirit, then Jesus is the door to our spiritual birth. Our spiritual birth comes by the word of God, meaning it is predicated on our faith. Romans 10: 10 says : “For with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”
Mathew 4: 4 also says, “Man shall live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD.” When we believe and receive Christ as the propitiation for our sins (for anyone that does not receive Jesus Christ as the LORD’s sacrifice and atonement for the sin of man does not acknowledge that he is a sinner and that it is the LORD that makes righteous), the Spirit of God goes into operation to make us, that is translate us into children of God (spiritual birth).
If any man be in Christ, he becomes a new creation (cleansed by the blood and infused with spiritual life by the Spirit), old things are passed away for all things are made new (2 Corinthians 5: 17). Herein lies the invincibility of the born-again man. First, he is no more in the flesh, so the flesh does not and should not have power over him. Through faith in the word of God (Jesus is the word of God John 1: 1), he is born again. “Whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world…” (1 John 5: 4). He becomes a spiritual being, born of the Spirit for as many as received Christ, to them, He gave power to be children of God. He is born of Christ Jesus, who is head over all principalities and powers (Colossians 2: 10). The scripture, as a matter of fact, describes the new creation believer as “complete” (Colossians 2: 10). They are fully accepted in Christ Jesus, complete new creation. The new creation believer is redeemed by the blood of Christ, shed on the cross, his sins fully atoned for. So they are no longer the lawful captive of the enemy, Satan, but are God’s purchased possession. The book of Revelation makes us know that the new creation, the born-again overcame by the blood of the Lamb, who is Christ Jesus (Revelation 12 : 11). So, the new creations in Christ are invicible by reason of the word of God, the Spirit of God, and the Blood of Christ. These three bears witness in heaven to the new creation. They are incorruptible and abide forever.
There is another fundamental dimension that makes the believer who is now a new creation in Christ Jesus invicibile. The blessing of the LORD. Scripture in Ephesians 1: 3 makes us understand that God the Father has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. The devil could not penetrate to destroy or deny these blessings because they are authored in the heavenly places far above all powers and principalities and anchored in Christ. The believer’s life is hidden with Christ in God, and Jesus Christ is the guarantee for these blessings, making the believer who has understanding and knowledge of what has been freely given to him impregnable.
There is a dramatic story in the book of Numbers 22: 5 where Balak sought the divination service of Balaam, the son of Beor, to curse the people of Israel. God told Balaam in verse 12 of Numbers chapter 22: ” thou shall not curse the people for they are blessed.” Balak was unrelenting, and Balaam’s covetousness kept him on, but the word of the LORD came out more forcefully for the nation of Israel whom He has blessed. We read in the book of Numbers 23: 19, “God is not a man that He should lie or the son of man that He should repent.” Numbers 23: 20 : “He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.” Numbers 23: 23 : “Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel.” The nation of Israel was impregnable. They were invicible because of the blessing of the LORD. Balaam was formidable as a seer. Whoever he blessed was blessed, and whosoever he cursed was cursed. But there was a spiritual dimension that Israel enjoyed, the blessing of the LORD, which no man can reverse. This is the pedestal in which the new creation believers are placed, being blessed with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Christ.
Our Lord Jesus after His resurrection and before He ascended into heaven declared this in Mark 16: 17 : “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Such is the invicibility of every believer in Christ Jesus. The new creation believer in Christ are not only invicible, they are also peculiar. Scripture in 1 Peter 2: 9 says : “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people ; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.” Balaam said of the people of Israel in Numbers 23: 21 : ” He has not behold iniquity in Jacob, neither has He seen perverseness in Israel, the LORD his God is with him and the shout of a King is among them.” This is one of the spiritual blessings we have in heavenly places in Christ, the forgiveness of sin by the blood of Christ. Though we are forgiven, as believers, we do not habitually live in sin because whoever is born of God cannot sin. The epistle of John in 1John 3: 9 says: “Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.” This is the peculiarity of the born-again believers with shouts of grace, grace resounding in their lives and among them.
The life of Job also affirms how the blessings of God make us invincible. Job was perfect, upright, and feared the LORD and does not practice evil (Job 1: 1). Job was also the greatest of all the men in the east, depicting he was blessed of God. An interesting thing unfolds in Job’s life in Job 1: 7- 10. The devil pointed out one unassailable truth in verse 10. Said he to God, ” Has thou not made an hedge about him, and about his house and about all that he has on every side?” The blessings of God on Job was a hedge that made Job invicible that the devil could not touch him. Much more than the blessings upon Job are the blessings that believers in Christ Jesus have been blessed with. These blessings came by the new covenant ratified by the blood of Jesus and based upon better promises. Like the nation of Israel in Numbers 23: 21, the LORD did not behold iniquity in Job nor any perverseness in him. So also the LORD should not behold iniquity in us or any perverseness because we have the blood of Jesus that atones for our sin and the seed of God, that is, the Spirit of God is in us, who helps us not to habitually sin like before. Sin makes a man devoid of the life of God and when we give no place to the devil in this regard, we are impregnable and the blessings of God make us invicible like Job and like the nation of Israel.
Given the enormity of our salvation and the great things that accompany it, how vigilant and careful ought we to be as believers knowing that our adversary the devil seeks whom he may devour. Apostle Paul, in the book of Colossians 2: 6, enjoined us: “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him.” We must have understanding of the things, that is, the blessings that accompany our salvation and make the blessings that we have received in heavenly places in Christ Jesus our default. Because I am blessed in Christ Jesus, I walk perfectly as He is perfect. Because I am blessed in Christ Jesus, I fear the LORD as Christ feared the LORD in the days of His flesh. Because I am blessed in Christ Jesus, I eschew all evil, and I do not practice sin nor urge on or allow any sinful display around me. The blessings we have of Christ and in Him should be a motivation for us to live right, do right, and speak right. Similarly, we should have the understanding that because we are blessed in Christ, we are rich and abound in wealth like Job. Because we are blessed, everything we lay our hands upon prosper. Because we are blessed in Christ Jesus, all our needs are met according to God’s glorious riches in Christ. This default is our reality as born-again believers, and we should not step outside of it to live otherwise. We are peculiar people and invicible because we have been blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
