Genesis 15: 5-6: And the LORD brought Abram outside [his tent into the night] and said, “Look now toward the heavens and count the stars—if you are able to count them.” Then He said to him, “So [numerous] shall your descendants be.” ABV
And Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD counted him as righteous because of his faith. NLT
This was the promise of God unto father Abram, a man without a child. Abram beheld the wondrous things out of this promise, the law of God, that he at such an advance age and yet without a child will have descendants numerous as the stars in the sky. The word was a contradiction to father Abram’s reality. It was wondrous, refreshing and father Abram believed. Father Abram believed God and believed also in His word, and God who cannot lie accounted it to father Abram as righteous thing. God changed his name afterwards to Abraham because he believed.
In Mathew chapter 9 verse 28 we read: “And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “ Do you believe that I am able to do this? ” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.” The blind men though haven’t seen, yet beheld wondrous things out of the words of the mouth of our Lord Jesus and they believed and got their sight. Like father Abraham having beheld wondrous things out of the word of God (the law of God) and believed so also the blind men believed and received their sight. They did not wrestle with God in unbelief. They did not taunt God with why have You not done it hitherto if You are able to do it. In this age of unbelief, where the fashion is, “say it as it is”, men question God and mock those who believe Him enough to declare things which be not as though they were. To believe God when nothing is evident is to show God reverence, it is affirming His integrity and extolling it above physical reality. Like the words of Apostle Peter in Luke chapter 5 verse 5: ” Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net .” Against all odds, we should hold God as true and righteous, this is the essence of beholding wondrous things out of His word.
The Word of God brings such a refreshing to man’s hopeless situation, but how often do men spun it. Due to the deceitfulness of their hearts, men refused to see the wondrous things therein in the word of God and in Him who has promised. Apostle Peter in his epistle, 1 Peter chapter 1 verse 3 declares that God has begotten us to a lively hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ who is our guarantee for the performance of God’s great and exceeding (wondrous) promises. Hope seen is no hope so we got to believe. Seeing things as it is, is not the same thing as saying it like it is. We see what is there but we declare what the word of God says to that situation. We behold the great and exceeding precious word of God over the situation or circumstance and we declare the word (the law) of God in faith. This is a righteous action God expects of us and He will sanction it.
God uphold all things by the word of His power (Hebrews 1: 3) and because His word will not go without being fulfilled, it is a law both in the spirit realm and in our physical circumstances. Our faith in Him and in His word shows our obedience and God rewards obedience. The word of God is His written will for us and it is imperishable and undefiled and unfading, being reserved in the heavens for us (1Peter 1: 4), because the testator of the will is also the enforcer, even our Lord Jesus Christ who died and is risen from the dead.
It is time for all men to behold wondrous things out of the Law, the word of God and believe in Jesus Christ as both Lord and Saviour not as one of the prophets (for He is Lord of all); and having believed, to live right by His word. The book of Psalms in chapter 19 eulogises the word of God so succinctly. Psalm 19: 7-9: “The law of the LORD is perfect (refreshing), converting (reviving) the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” Indeed the word of God is more to be desired than any earthly things for that which the word gives does not perish.
As the world sinks further and further into dark days of wars, famine, wickedness, selfishness and so forth, it is the word of God that brings light, a refreshing to the darkness and reviving the hearts of men that is failing. We must begin to behold the wondrous things out of the word of God, believe and declare it in faith. God has not left us to grope in darkness brought about by man’s sin and rebellion, He has given us a victory, our faith (1John 5:4). What is faith, it is declaring those things which be not (but revealed in the precious word of God) as though they were. Saying it as it is, which is the way of the world does nothing but to increase murmur, fear and complaints but no solution. But declaring the word of God in faith backed with corresponding righteous actions makes us soar above the darkness and to shine. Like the Psalmist, our prayer should be as in Psalm 119: 18: ” Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.”
