In all our lives, our plans, our dreams must be set to fulfil God’s ultimate purpose. We must have something in our hands God can work with and use for His ultimate purpose, which is far better and more benevolent than our own set goals.

Joseph desired to be great, that is, greater than his brothers and his parents. His dream revealed this. God used his dream to fulfil His ultimate purpose.

In Joseph’s paths, which for most part was thorny, to fulfilling his dream, he never compromised on his spirituality, he never indulged in besetting sins. He may not understand the paths he was been taken through, but he understood one thing, the fear of God. Wherever Joseph was, be it in Portiphar’s house or in jail, he was diligent, faithful and disciplined. He was driven by his dream for greatness. We like Joseph must have a dream and work it, “whatever thine hand finds doing, do it with all your might” (Eccle 9:10).

Joseph’s spirituality was not in question and so also was his diligence, his faithfulness and His discipline which were a show of his commitment to his dream. Joseph was so faithful and trustworthy that his master, Portiphar left everything in his household in his hand, even the Jailor also. Can such be accorded us today as believers in Christ?. We must be found faithful and trustworthy, like Joseph. Joseph was diligent, faithful and disciplined because he had a dream, we should not sacrifice these dispositions on the altar of retinue of church activities and appearances as some are won’t to, in fact our spirituality demands of us such dispositions.

Joseph eventually achieved his dream of greatness, and God used his dream for His ultimate purpose. Joseph’s greatness was the gateway used by God to transform Jacob’s (his father) family into a nation (Israel) in the fulfilling of God’s promise to Abraham which, is still being fulfilled today that He (God) will make him a father of nations.

As individuals, we must have a goal, a plan, a dream which we nurture and work out in prayer and commit same into God’s hands to use for His ultimate purpose. Whoever seeks yo save his life will lose it is a principle for us to follow, whatever dreams are given us, we must commit same back into God’s hand. He will use our dreams as a gateway to establish His will on earth. Any plan or dream not turned over to the Lord for His ultimate purpose become a burden. Proverbs 16:4 – “The LORD has made everything for His purpose…” And this includes our plans, our goals, our dreams.

All the godly men of old, Paul, Daniel, Elisha among many, all these were men of one profession or the other and later used of God for His ultimate purpose because they committed to God, seeing His purpose higher than theirs. Their spirituality was never in question and so also their dedication, their diligence and their integrity. We like them must be like apples of gold in setting of silver; making a difference, a distinction in knowledge, in character, in excellence and in every good works.

“Lord, I offer my life to You
Everything I have been through
Lord, use it for Your glory”. Amen
